Practice History

Ralph Ingram founded this Practice in 1931 having qualified in 1928. He was awarded an Honorary MSc from Loughborough University in 1971 for his services to further education in setting up Stamford Hall as a Co-Operative College. He was also a Chairman of Loughborough Magistrates.

Ralph Ingram worked tirelessly for professional advancement both nationally and locally and was National Chairman of the Association of Optometrists during the 1950's. Ralph Ingram's aim was to provide a complete ophthalmic service rather than merely to sell spectacles.

David Austen came to Loughborough in 1973, when he joined the Practice. He continued with the pursuit of Clinical Optometry, the value of eye care before eye wear. In the 1980's the Practice moved to its present location in Church Gate.

The original aims of the Practice, set out by Ralph Ingram, are now carried through to the 21st century and the Practice continues to provide a clinical optometric service to patients in Loughborough.
